CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sierra Bishop and Jaydon Grant have been selected as Oregon State’s 2022-23 Thomas C. Hansen Conference Medal Winners.
A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution’s outstanding senior female and male student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac 12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.
Sierra Bishop, Women’s Rowing (Wilsonville, Ore.) – Graduated cum laude with honors (3.63 GPA) with bachelor’s degree in business management and minor in leadership before earning a master’s of business administration with a major concentration in supply chain and logistics management (3.62 GPA) … Three-time Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll (2021, 2022, 2023) … 2022 CRCA Scholar Athlete … Competed in the Varsity 8 in all five spring races including a fifth-place finish at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships … Part of the Varsity 8 squad that finished 14th at the 2022 NCAAs, placing second in the “C” final … Two-time Pocock All-American (second team in 2022, honorable mention in 2021) … Helped USA U23 Eight win gold at the 2021 U23 World Championships … Wrote Dean’s Academy thesis – A Professional Athlete’s Transition Out of Sport: The Challenges and Opportunities that Pertain to Entering into a New Career … Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President.
Jaydon Grant, Football (West Linn, Ore.) – Attained a bachelor’s degree in digital communication arts with a minor in business and entrepreneurship, followed by earning a 3.32 GPA while receiving a master’s in business with concentration in marketing insights and analytics while also securing a graduate certificate in business analytics … Started his Oregon State career as a walk-on in 2016 before becoming a three-time team captain … Helped lead the team to a 10-3 record in 2022, just the third 10-win season in program history … Named all-conference by several outlets following the 2022 season (first team: PFF; second team: All-Pac-12, Associated Press, and Phil Steele) and the 2021 season (third team: Phil Steele; honorable mention: All-Pac-12) … Nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy in both 2021 and 2022 as the top current/former walk-on in college football … In 2021, named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, an award that combines athletics, academics and community service … Nine interceptions in 57 career games … Pac-12 2021 Fall Academic Honor Roll … Co-founder of Dam Change … Participated in the Reading Buddies program at Lincoln Elementary, Mileage Club at Liberty Elementary and Night to Shine which was a prom night for community members with disabilities … Other community efforts include visits to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and working with the Special Olympics basketball tournament and Kids of Parkinson’s for the Brian Grant Foundation.
