The boy’s family had been on the radar of the local government agency responsible for child welfare before his death.
GRAFTON, Australia (WKRC) — Police are questioning the parents of a 5-year-old Australian boy who was found dead after being duct-taped into a sleeping bag.
New South Wales Police said emergency crews were called to a home in Grafton the morning of Oct. 12 after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. The child was given CPR, but could not be revived.
The boy reportedly had developmental delays, and both he and at least one of his siblings had been bound into sleeping bags with tape to sleep at night. The family had been on the Department of Communities and Justice’s radar before the boy’s death, reported ABC News Australia.
It’s not clear how the boy died at this time. A coroner will conduct a post-mortem exam, and police are questioning the boy’s parents, but no arrests have been made.
The boy’s identity has also not been released.
