Oregon State defensive lineman Simon Sandberg picked No. 5 by Montreal in CFL global draft

Oregon State defensive lineman Simon Sandberg was selected by Montreal in the Canadian Football League’s global draft Tuesday.

Sandberg was the No. 5 overall pick in the global draft. Later Tuesday, the CFL conducts a draft of Canadian players. Sandberg was eligible for the global draft as he’s a Swedish native.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Sandberg is the 11th player from Oregon State’s 2022 roster to land with a pro football team. Nine are headed to the NFL, while inside linebacker Kyrei Fisher-Morris agreed to a CFL free agent deal with Saskatchewan.

Sandberg transferred from City College of San Francisco to Oregon State in 2019. He played in 40 games, starting 33 times. Sandberg had 51 tackles during his OSU career.
