It was a rough season for the Beavers at long snapper. They may have found their answer.
One of Oregon State football’s most glaring and at times catastrophic issues from the 2025 season appears to have its solution.
Tug Sanford, a long snapper from FCS school Stephen F. Austin, announced he is transferring to the Beavers on Wednesday.
While the addition of a long snapper isn’t typically high on the priority list for teams in the transfer portal, it was a major need for OSU this offseason.
After starting long snapper Dylan Black broke his snapping hand in the team’s opener against Cal, the Beavers had six botched snaps in an early season loss to Fresno State, and the issue persisted for weeks.
Former OSU coach Trent Bray called his special teams unit a “(expletive) joke” at half of the Fresno game, and at times the Beavers resorted to shorter snaps to their punter from center Van Wells.
OSU eventually settled on outside linebacker Will Haverland for long snapping duties for the back half of the season, but Sanford has played the position throughout his two years in college. And on top of that, Black entered the transfer portal earlier this month.
Sanford, a rising junior, is a former high school teammate of OSU incoming freshman cornerback Kai Wheaton.
