A pair of Oregon State defenders announced their decisions to enter the transfer portal Wednesday. Defensive-lineman JoJo Johnson and defensive back Conrad Hussey are searching for new homes.
Matt Zenitz of recruiting outlet 247Sports announced Johnson’s transfer. On3’s Pete Nakos announced Hussey’s departure. Neither player issued their own statement, but Johnson confirmed his intention by resharing Zenitz’s social media post.
JoJo Johnson, RS-So., DL
Johnson, a redshirt-sophomore from Salt Lake City, appeared in 11 games in 2025. He logged a career-high four tackles in the Beavers’ season-opening matchup with Cal. By season’s end, Johnson racked up 18 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks. Against FCS Lafayette, the Beavers’ first win of the season, Johnson recorded his first-career interception and gave media members arguably the best sound byte of the season.
“What’s the most disrespectful way I can go through (Lafayette’s) quarterback?” Johnson said, laughing. “Just caught the pick, now I’ve got to body him. I tried to go through him, he went low and cut me. I was like, ‘Dang, I should’ve jumped (or) juked!”
Johnson has three years of eligibility remaining.
Conrad Hussey, RS-So., DB
Hussey joined the Beavers midway through the 2025 campaign. The Florida State-transfer and former four-star recruit appeared in only four games — Oregon, Houston, Appalachian State and Wake Forest. He made one start, against Houston, and did not play in a game following former head coach Trent Bray’s firing. According to Pro Football Focus, Hussey played a total of 51 snaps for Oregon State.
Florida State dismissed Hussey from the program in the fall following a “physical altercation with a coach”, according to CBS Sports. Hussey recorded five tackles and logged one pass break-up for the Beavers. The limited playing time earned the defensive back a redshirt, he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
Johnson and Hussey join redshirt-freshman quarterback Kallen Gutridge and junior tight end Riley Williams as the first players to leave Corvallis for a new opportunity.
The transfer portal officially opens Jan. 2. Players have a 14-day window to enter the portal, which closes Jan. 16. Players have no deadline by which they must commit to a new school and can return to their original program, but can only opt to enter the portal within the window.
