Probable starters: OSU RHP Dax Whitney (3-2, 4.10) vs. RHP Collin Clarke (2-2, 4.37)

This and that: Whitney is making his 11th start of the season and first in his career against the rival Ducks. The 6-foot-5 freshman has been exceptional so far in his debut college season, but is coming off the worst performance of his career. Whitney allowed a season-high six earned runs on five hits, while recording a season-low one strikeout, in a no-decision at Cal State Northridge. He didn’t make it out of the second inning. … After a rough stretch in April, the Beavers’ bullpen has been solid this week, allowing just one run and eight hits over its last 18 2/3 innings. OSU relievers have recorded 18 strikeouts during the three-game run. … OSU shortstop Aiva Arquette and outfielder Gavin Turley hit back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning of Game 1, delivering two of the Beavers’ five hits in the opener. … Arquette extended his hitting streak to 13 games, a stretch that has seen him hit .473 (26 for 55) with eight home runs, two doubles, 26 RBIs and 21 runs scored. … For Turley, the RBI was the 172nd of his career, leaving him one shy of third place on the Beavers’ all-time list. Turley trails Andy Jarvis (173), Adley Rutschman (174) and Michael Conforto (179) in the Oregon State record book. … OSU catcher Wilson Weber brings a six-game hitting streak into today’s game. He is 14 for 29 (.483) with three doubles and three RBIs during the run, which is one shy of his season-high. … The Beavers out-hit the Ducks five to four in the opener. It was just the second time this season the Beavers have lost a game in which they out-hit an opponent, dropping them to 30-2 in such games this season. … Oregon State leadoff hitter Easton Talt drew a pair of walks Friday, giving him 49 this season — the most in college baseball. … Neville’s series-opening homer was his seventh in the last 10 games. He leads the nation with 20 this season. … The Ducks are seeking their first weekend series win over the Beavers since 2021, when they swept a three-game set in Eugene. … Clarke is making his 10th start of the season. The 6-3 sophomore is 0-2 in his last four starts, a stretch that has seen him surrender 16 runs and 19 hits over 17 innings. … Cooney is 5 for 11 with two doubles and six RBIs over the last three games. … Oregon State is hitting .308 with 28 homers, 34 doubles and 119 runs scored in April.
