Oregon St. is 3-1. The Beavers come off a 38-21 win over Purdue.
Colorado St. enters week six after the bye 2-2. In week four, CSU beat UTEP 27-17.
MATCHUP HISTORY
In the matchup history, CSU is 2-1 over OSU. 2017 was the last time these teams played. CSU took the 58-27 win.
COACHES
Former defensive player for the Beavers Trent Bray was named head coach November 28, 2023. Bray was previously a linebackers coach with the Beavers since 2013.
CSU coach Jay Norvell directs the Rams in his third season. Since his arrival Dec. 6, 2021, the Rams are 10-18 overall.
BREAKDOWN
This is a defensive-heavy game. “Early and often” is the term Norvell used to describe the style of play his offense will need to combat the Bray defense. Anything later and the Rams will struggle to move the down markers.
Wide receiver Tory Horton is available after a groin injury in week two against Northern Colorado plagued him. If Horton does not play, the same old story arises with the younger WRs who must step up. Jamari Person, Amarni Winfield, and Caleb Goodie are QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi’s targets if he chooses to throw.
So far though, the Air Raid is quiet this season, as running backs Avery Morrow and Justin Marshall lead the offense.
The bye week came at a crucial time, however, the Rams are still struggling with injuries.
DB Jack Howell is available after taking a hard hit against UTEP in week 4. DL Nuer Gatkouth is still questionable for a return. DL Deandre Gill, Jr. is more likely to play of the two DL.
OSU is big, physical and pushes the ball downfield with the run game. It is one of the gritty matchups where the Rams’ defensive line will do most of the legwork.
The Beavers have the largest time of possession in the nation at nearly 38 minutes. Every offensive play for the Rams needs to be clean and efficient when it gets its opportunity.
Overall, this game is an exciting look into the play for 2026 when CSU joins the Pac-12.
PREDICTION
Oregon State hands the Rams an L in this matchup. Final score: OSU 24, CSU 14.
