Former Oregon State Beavers’ star Isaiah Hodgins poised for a ‘bounce back’ season

The wide receiver struggled in 2023, but with starting quarterback Daniel Jones now healthy, Hodgins could resume his upward trajectory in 2024.

Isaiah Hodgins hopes for a bounce back season as he prepares for the 2024 season. The New York Giants wide receiver and former Oregon State Beavers’ star entered the 2023 season with high expectations but exited with a disappointing campaign.

Hodgins finished the 2023 season with 21 receptions for 230 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games. The numbers were a decline compared to 2022, where Hodgins posted 33 receptions for 351 yards and four touchdowns.

Not everyone has soured on Hodgins, Bruce Ewing of yardbarker.com listed Hodgins as one of three New York Giants players who could have a bounce back year in 2024.

After the Giants picked him up off waivers midway through the 2022 season, Hodgins grabbed four touchdown passes in his final five regular season games and then posted a huge performance – eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown – in the Giants’ 31-24 wild card win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Hodgins’ production left Giants fans excited about his potential for the 2023 season, but like the rest of the Giants’ offense, he struggled.

Hodgins’ numbers declined in part because of the absence of quarterback Daniel Jones. Hodgins had developed strong chemistry with Jones, but the quarterback suffered a season-ending neck injury during the Giants’ Week 12 win against the Eagles.

The 6-foot-3 Hodgins signed a one-year, $1 million contract to return to the Giants in 2024. Hodgins could have been retained as a restricted free agent on a one-year, $3 million contract, but the Giants weren’t interested in paying out that kind of money.

Hodgins has 54 catches for 581 yards in 25 games and his combined seven touchdowns over the last two seasons were the second-most on the Giants, behind now-departed running back Saquon Barkley’s 17.
