CORVALLIS, Ore. – The picture is becoming a little bit clearer for Beaver Nation. On Thursday, Oregon State football head coach Jamarcus Shephard announced that Mitch Dahlen is set to join the team as the newest offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“I’m really excited to bring Mitch Dahlen in as our offensive coordinator,” said Shephard. “He’s a bright, passionate coach who will help us take this offense to the next level. His ability to connect with players, teach the game and build a creative flexible system is exactly what we need as we set the foundation for this new era of Oregon State football. I can’t wait to see the impact he will make on our program.”
Dahlen previously served as the assistant offensive coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach at the University of Alabama. His tenure also includes positions at the University of Washington and Fresno State University, where he contributed to highly successful passing offenses.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be coming back to a place I consider home,” said Dahlen. “I have spent many Saturdays in the stands at old Parker Stadium and to see how far this place has come is amazing. The history of this football program has been in my blood since I was a kid, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to lead this offense. Coach Shephard is a true leader of men and I am excited to get to work for one of the best coaches in the country. I am looking forward to hearing the chainsaw in front of a sold out Reser in the fall.”
Dahlen’s appointment is subject to the completion of all university hiring processes. His coaching journey includes significant achievements such as leading teams to multiple college football playoff selections and a national title appearance, as well as mentoring quarterbacks, such as Jake Haener, Michael Penix Jr. and Jalen Milroe, who have been selected in the NFL Draft.
Dahlen’s coaching career began at the College of Idaho, where he set multiple offensive records. He also held roles at Black Hills State and Boise State, further establishing his reputation in collegiate football.
A graduate of Southern Utah University, Dahlen has deep ties to Oregon State. His father, Chris, played football for the Beavers, and his brother, Matt, played basketball for the university. His mother was also attended Oregon State University as well.
