The Beavers signed three-star edge rusher Caleb Metzner on Wednesday morning to begin early National Signing Day, a period which runs from Wednesday to Friday. Metzner was previously committed to South Alabama before a last-minute flip to the Beavers.
Metzner — listed at 6-2, 215 pounds — is rated the No. 172 edge rusher in the country and No. 102 player in Alabama according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He hails from Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama.
Metzner had 24.5 sacks his senior year, leading the state of Alabama and drawing some recruiting attention from the Crimson Tide.
Prospective OSU football general manager Eron Hodges — still serving as assistant director of player personnel at Alabama — celebrated Metzner’s signing on social media Wednesday morning.
“He’s Special!!!,” Hodges wrote in a post on X. “Elite Player and Blind Faith!!! @MetznerCaleb will be a legend!”
OSU lost the commitment of three-star running back Braylon Toliver on Tuesday night, with the Erie, Colorado product citing the departure of former OSU running backs coach Ray Pickering.
But the Beavers did sign a former Ole Miss commit in three-star wide receiver Jameson Powell (Folsom, CA); along with three-star cornerback Kai Wheaton (Allen, TX); three-star wide receiver Cynai Thomas (San Francisco, CA); three-star tight end Landon Cook (Concord, CA); three-star edge rusher Adel Dorr (Issaquah, WA); three-star linebackers Jeremiah Brown (San Jacinto, CA) and Lance McGee (Sumner, WA); and three-star athlete Jesse Legree (Baltimore, MD).
McGee had previously decommitted from the Beavers following Trent Bray’s firing, but is back with OSU and Shephard.
OSU has two verbal commits from the state of Oregon: safety Deryk Farmer (Medford, OR) and athlete Rocco De La Rosa (Philomath, OR).
