JaMarcus Shephard was introduced in Corvallis on Tuesday afternoon and brings experience from one of the biggest college programs in the country.
CORVALLIS, Ore. — The focus this week on the campus of Oregon State University might finals, but everyone is already looking forward to the JaMarcus Shephard era. After two disappointing seasons, Beaver Nation is ready for a change.
Dawning a three-piece suit, the new head coach of Beaver football made it clear he was all about class, and his players are going to be all class, too — and his staff is going to teach it.
“That’s what we need are a ton of teachers on this team to give our players the best opportunity to learn; you have to teach them what being a good man looks like,” said Shephard.
JaMarcus Shephard has ties to the Northwest. He was an assistant coach for a year at Washington State University and for two years at the University of Washington. For the last two years, he’s been on the staff at the University of Alabama.
Shephard found out he got the job while he was getting ready to host a Thanksgiving dinner last week, and on Tuesday, he was in Corvallis, where he and his family are used to small college towns.
“My family is resilient; they can adapt to wherever… they can adapt to wherever we’re at, but we have flourished in those smaller environments,” said Shephard.
Students on campus Tuesday expressed a lot of excitement.
“I hope that translates to our program because I know there have been well-known coaches. I’m really excited about what the future of our team is,” said Ekow Addo.
