McCoy’s time at Texas State appears to be over before it fully started.

One of Oregon State’s former quarterbacks is hitting the transfer portal once again.

Gevani McCoy, who transferred from OSU to Texas State following the 2024 season, is back in the portal.

After spending the spring with the Bobcats, McCoy is “testing the waters” and getting a strong response from other schools, a source told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

McCoy — a 6-foot, dual-threat quarterback — spent one season at Oregon State after three years at Idaho. In his lone season with the Beavers, he threw for 1,300 yards and three touchdowns, rushing for 325 yards and five touchdowns.

McCoy led OSU to three wins in its first four games, but struggled after a shoulder injury against Colorado State and eventually lost the starting job to Ben Gulbranson.

Gulbranson decided not to return to OSU, while both McCoy and walk-on Dom Montiel transferred. The Beavers brought in former Duke quarterback Maalik Murphy in the offseason as their presumed starter, forking over a significant NIL commitment reported at $1.5 million.

McCoy will now test the NIL market in the spring transfer window, before a new revenue sharing model expected to limit schools’ NIL spending takes hold in college sports.
