“Doctor Ben” is headed to Palo Alto.

It appears that “Doctor Ben” will have a chance to hit the books even harder.

Former Oregon State quarterback Ben Gulbranson is transferring to Stanford for his final year of eligibility. After initially stepping away from the game in January, reportedly with interest in attending medical school, Gulbranson returned to college football and entered the transfer portal on April 25.

Gulbranson’s game-winning pass to Tre’Shaun Harrison in 2022 — on the road against Stanford, oddly enough — was among the highlights of an up-and-down Oregon State career. He went 7-1 as a starter his redshirt freshman year before being passed over for the job in 2023.

In the 2024 season, Gulbranson started three of OSU’s final four games, surpassing Gevani McCoy on the depth chart. He threw for 943 yards and four touchdowns.

Gulbranson joined the Beavers in 2020 as a three-star recruit out of Newbury Park High School in California. He eventually graduated from OSU with a degree in public health.

Whatever post-football career plans Gulbranson has, they will likely be put on hold for now as he joins the Cardinal football program under general manager Andrew Luck.
