BERKELEY, Calif.– Oregon State football has reached its breaking point. After weeks and weeks of fighting through injuries and struggles on the field, the buildup final came to a boil this Saturday.
Down on the road in sunny California, Oregon State football would suffer its worst loss, by point margin, since the 2019 season nearly getting shut out to Cal 44-7.
Both the Beavers’ offense and defense had its fair share of issues during the loss. On the offensive side, Oregon State was held to exactly 200 yards of total offense for the day, the team’s lowest amount since their loss to Notre Dame during the 2023 Sun Bowl.
Starting quarterback Gevani McCoy would get sent to the bench midway through the 2nd quarter after completing just two out of his five passes for three yards and one interception.
The Beavers would then rely on replacement quarterback Gabarri Johnson and Ben Gulbranson throughout the rest of the afternoon
Oregon State would not score until midway through the fourth quarter on a fourth and goal pass from Gulbranson to Trent Walker.
On defense while the Beavers did a good job limiting the California run game, something they had not done in week, the secondary was completely exposed.
California QB Fernando Mendoza would pick apart OSU’s defense finishing the day 27-36, with 364 yards and two touchdowns.
The loss marks the third straight for the Beavers, pushing the team to an even .500 record (4-4). Up next, Oregon State will head into its second bye week with time to reflect and get healthy before taking on San Jose State University on November 9.
