Oregon State football embraces ‘violent’ offensive identity
Oregon State leaned on a smash-mouth offensive philosophy to kick off the year with a 38-15 win against Idaho State and made it abundantly clear that running the ball will be a strength this season.
The Beavers ran for 362 yards on 58 attempts, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Jam Griffin (160 yards) and Anthony Hankerson (155 yards) became the first OSU duo since 1994 to run for more than 150 yards apiece in the same game.
At one point, Oregon State orchestrated a 75-yard scoring drive that featured 11 consecutive running plays and chewed up more than nine minutes of game clock.

Takeaways: Oregon State Beavers cruise past Idaho State to open 2024 season
For the past eight months, there has been an endless stream of speculation surrounding the Oregon State Beavers and where they fit in the rapidly shifting college football landscape.
After an offseason filled with uncertainty and wholesale changes throughout the program, the new-look Beavers made their long-awaited return to Reser Stadium on Saturday and produced an on-field product that, in many ways, is similar to that of OSU squads from the recent past.
Oregon State ground down its opponent with a relentless rushing attack, dialed up a few timely explosive passes to take the top off the secondary, and leaned on a physical defense as it opened the season with a convincing 38-15 win over Idaho State.
“It was just normal,” Oregon State coach Trent Bray said. “We’re out to play a game and we don’t care who we play against; we’re ready to go win. I thought it was great. The atmosphere was great. The guys played hard, flew around and operated very well for the most part.”

Oregon State football defeats Idaho State 38-15 in opener
Jam Griffin ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, and Anthony Hankerson ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries to lead the way for the Beavers.
In his first start for Oregon State, Gevani McCoy went 9-for-10 passing for 114 yards and one touchdown.
The Beavers will now turn their sights on their Sept. 7 matchup at San Diego State. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff and will air on CBS Sports Network.
