CORVALLIS, Ore– No. 9 Oregon State baseball is now 2-0 against in-state rival Oregon this season.
On Saturday, tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the 8th, the Beavers would find a way to come out on top and close out No. 22 Oregon with a 4-2 win.
Beaver pitcher Jacob Kmatz finished the night with 6.1 innings of work while striking out 10 Ducks and only allowing one run.
Kmatz and the rest of the bullpen kept the Beavers in the game, in which hitting was a struggle for both teams.
But in the bottom of the 8th inning, tied 2-2 with runners on second and third, Elijah Hainline would knock both runs in to help give the Beavers a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Bridger Holmes would then come in to replace Joey Mundt at the mound and would finish the night with only one walk and three strikeouts.
Saturday’s crowd of 3,962 marked the highest of the season and 19th all-time at Goss Stadium. It’s also the second-most against Oregon, following 4,026 on May 7, 2022 and was the 11th largest regular season crowd at the stadium.
With this win, Oregon State can shoot for a series sweep, in Corvallis, on Sunday. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
