Nine individuals and two teams will be inducted into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame this fall
A star-studded cast of nine, headlined by NFL all-pro Steven Jackson, NBA veteran Brent Barry and football coach Mike Riley, plus two teams will be inducted into Oregon State Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.
This year’s class includes Bob DeCarolis, Mike Hass, Josh Inman, Mandi Rodriguez, Rachel Rourke, Alexis Serna, Jackson, Riley and Barry, in addition to OSU’s 2006 softball and 2016 women’s basketball teams.
The enshrinement date will be announced later this summer. Hall of Fame weekends are generally tied to an Oregon State home football game.
Riley, 69, is the winningest coach in Oregon State football history. Riley won 93 games over a 14-year tenure (1997-98, 2003-14). Riley’s teams won six bowl games. He was the 2008 Pac-10 coach of the year.
Jackson, a running back who played at OSU from 2001-03, won third-team All-America honors in 2003 after rushing for 1,545 yards. Jackson ran for 3,625 yards over three seasons, which at the time ranked 10th among conference career rushing leaders. Jackson played 12 seasons in the NFL, twice earning all-pro honors.
Barry, a men’s basketball forward who played at OSU from 1991-95, ranks 11th in career scoring with 1,304 points, and fourth in steals with 199. Barry was the Beavers’ most valuable player in 1993-94 and 1994-95, and earned all-conference honors as a senior. Barry played 14 years in the NBA, and played on championship teams in 2005 and 2007.
De Carolis spent 17 years at Oregon State, including 13 as the school’s athletic director. Under De Carolis’ leadership, OSU rebuilt the east side of Reser Stadium, erased a $12.5 million budget deficit, and grew the school’s athletic budget by more than $20 million.
Hass and Serna were national award winners in football. Hass, a former walk-on, was honored in 2005 with the Biletnikoff Award, giving to the nation’s top receiver. Hass is the only receiver in Oregon State history with three 1,000-yard seasons.
Serna, currently on Oregon State’s staff as director of Beyond Football, won the 2005 Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top placekicker. Serna once set an OSU record for converting 6 of 6 field goal tries in a game against Washington.
Inman was a standout rower who was named 2005 U.S. Rowing male athlete of the year after winning the World Rowing Championships. Inman won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in a rowing event.
Rodriguez is a seven-time All-American in gymnastics. She posted three top-10 finishes in vault at the NCAAs. Rodriguez was the Pac-10?s gymnast of the year in 2009. Rourke, a former star for the Australian volleyball national team, was a two-time All-American. She is Oregon State’s career leader in kills with 1,920.
Oregon State’s 2015-16 women’s basketball team had a storybook season. The Beavers were 32-5, won the Pac-12, had the conference’s player of the year (Jamie Weisner) and defensive player of the year (Ruth Hamblin) and finished the school’s first-ever Final Four appearance.
The Beavers’ 2006 softball team won 43 games and played in the College World Series.
